130th Anniversay Banquet

130th Anniversay Banquet

On 12th July, over 180 members and guests celebrated the 130th Anniversary of the Royal Society of St George at the sumptuous Stationers’ Hall in the City of London. Following a very pleasant ‘bubbles’ reception in the garden, we moved into wonderful 17th Century Hall, which was completed only 7 years after the Great Fire of London.

It was really good to see so many people there - old friends and new - enjoying great food and drink and most importantly, great company. We were entertained by the Royal Marines Association Ensemble and treated to a couple of songs from Chelsea Pensioner - and Britain’s Got Talent winner - Colin Thackery.

The two speakers we had were excellent. Both Professor George Holmes DL (VC of the University of Bolton) and Dr Kevin Beaton OBE gave inspiring and thought provoking speeches that were very well received.

Through the generous sponsorship of the University of Bolton, Eventura, Counting Kings and the Bolton Branch, as well as from a silent auction and raffle, the event raised enough money for the Society to be able to make substantial donations to the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, the Army Benevolent Fund, the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Many thanks to all those who so generously donated prizes.
