SUSSEX BRANCH – CHARITIES BENEFITTING FROM OUR TRAFALGAR EVENT
Henfield Area Response Team (HART)
HART was set up in January 2004 to tackle cardiac emergencies in the Henfield community. As an independent charity it supports the South East Coast Ambulance Service in providing volunteer trained responders for emergency calls in Henfield that are life-threatening – or potentially life-threatening. These local responders attend 999 calls at the request of the ambulance service and provide potential life-saving interventions and care prior to the arrival of the ambulance. They are fully trained and carry medical equipment and defibrillators that can restart a heart during cardiac arrest. When the team are on call, the emergency response time in the Henfield area is reduced from a possible 20 minutes to, in many cases, less than 5 minutes, which can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity
For 20 years the Dame Vera Lynn’s Children’s Charity, helped by donations from organisations like the RSSG, has supported more than 700 families who have children under the age of five with Cerebral Palsy and other motor learning impairments. Its Centre in Cuckfield is a bright, welcoming and inspiring place where children and their families find the hope and specialist support they need. The wonderful people who work there provide small group conductive education sessions, music therapy, speech and language therapy, sensory/messy play, swimming and portage play – all provided free of charge to families. Dame Vera Lynn was an Honorary member of our Sussex Branch so this seemed a very fitting way of using some of the money we raised.
