CHARITIES BENEFITTING FROM OUR TRAFALGAR CONCERT

Henfield Area Response Team (HART)

HART was set up in January 2004 to tackle cardiac emergencies in the Henfield community. As an independent charity it supports the South East Coast Ambulance Service in providing volunteer trained responders for emergency calls in Henfield that are life-threatening - or potentially life-threatening.  These local responders attend 999 calls at the request of the ambulance service and provide potential life-saving interventions and care prior to the arrival of the ambulance. They are fully trained and carry medical equipment and defibrillators that can restart a heart during cardiac arrest.  When the team are on call, the emergency response time in the Henfield area is reduced from a possible 20 minutes to, in many cases, less than 5 minutes, which can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.                    For more information see  https://www.henfieldresponders.org.uk/the-team.html

Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity

For 20 years the Dame Vera Lynn’s Children’s Charity, helped by donations from organisations like the RSSG, has supported more than 700 families who have children under the age of five with Cerebral Palsy and other motor learning impairments. Its Centre in Cuckfield is a bright, welcoming and inspiring place where children and their families find the hope and specialist support they need. The wonderful people who work there provide small group conductive education sessions, music therapy, speech and language therapy, sensory/messy play, swimming and portage play - all provided free of charge to families. Dame Vera Lynn was an Honorary member of our Sussex Branch so this seemed a very fitting way of using some of the money we raised.

SUSSEX BRANCH TRAFALGAR CONCERT 2021

Held on Saturday 23rd October in The Henfield Hall, this was a delightful concert with our local band Brass Fusion demonstrating once again their talent and versatility by playing a variety of music including many ‘nautical’ pieces appropriate for the occasion.  It was their first indoor performance for two years because of the Covid pandemic.  Social distancing was observed by positioning chairs around tables, which had matching red and white tablecloths and red floral displays with small flags.  The informality of this layout prompted conversation and worked admirably. Very large St George’s flags adorned the walls of the newly decorated hall and there was also a sizeable exhibition with facts about St George, as well as a large raffle.  After expenses a good profit was made which has been shared amongst two Sussex charities: HART (Henfield Area Response Team) and Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity - supporting under 5’s with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments.  This is especially appropriate because (i) Dame Vera was an Honorary Member of the Sussex Branch and (ii) Nick Dutt, RSSG’s Deputy Chairman is also one of this Charity's Trustees.
