St. George's Day Celebration
SAINT GEORGE'S DAY 2018. At 6pm we all met at St Andrew's Church, Alfriston, the cathedral of the South Downs to hear the bells rung in honour of St George. The Revd Christyan James then led our service. He and the Captain of the Bells, Pauline Kennard later joined us at dinner in the nearby Deans Place Hotel. Pauline is also Secy to the PCC and is always a great help with our arrangements for this annual service.
We then walked across the Tye to the Hotel for our formal dinner attended by the Lord Lieutenant, Peter Field and the High Sheriff, Major General John Moore-Bick CBE. After the Ceremony of the Beef, which was enjoyed by all, we tucked into a superb meal. There were the usual speeches, followed by the raffle, which raised £262 for our funds - a magnificent result.
